The City of Grandview Heights known as the 'Friendly Little City,' is the most convenient suburb to downtown Columbus, and is very close to The Ohio State University. Grandview Heights was founded in 1906 as a village and became a city in 1931. Together with the village of Marble Cliff and the city of Upper Arlington, the area constitutes the Tri-Village Community. Grandview Heights, predominantly a residential community characterized by older homes and tree-lined streets, has a unique 'downtown' featuring a movie theater, eclectic shops, and a variety of restaurants, all within walking distance to the majority of the community. Driving time to downtown Columbus and Ohio State is approximately five to ten minutes.
Construction underway of the C. Ray Buck Sports Park—a 4.7 acre park featuring a softball diamond, soccer fields, children's play area, and a perimeter fitness trail. The grand opening will be celebrated over Labor Day weekend 1998. In addition to the year-round recreational activities, the City is home to many traditional community events, including the Ox Roast (September) and the Halloween Pumpkin Run and Festival (October), as well as several new ones: the Lazy Daze of Summer Crafts and Music Festival (July) and the Wendy's Cycling Classic (August).
